Web Design
Designing a web site is defined as the arrangement and creation of web pages that in turn make up a web site. A web site might be compared to a book, where each page of the book is a web page. There are many aspects in this process, and due to the rapid development of the Internet, new aspects constantly emerge. Think of the Internet as an ever changing landscape, as new technologies emerge they sweep the web and change the way things look until the next innovation. As far as creativity in design we are literally limited by our imaginations, there is nothing that is not possible with a little custom coding.
For Personal Non-commercial Web Sites:
For non-commercial web sites, the goals may vary depending on the desired exposure and response. Blogs and other forms of social networking are great for self promotion and help you to build unique fresh content which Google favors very highly in its search algorithm. We can train you how to become a blogger, some bloggers make several thousand dollars per month in ad revenue, talking about things you love.
For Most Commercial Web Sites:
For typical commercial web sites, the basic aspects of design are:
- The content: the substance, and information on the site should be relevant to the site and should target the audience that the website is intended for.
- The usability: the site should be user-friendly, with the interface and navigation simple and reliable.
- The appearance: the graphics and text should include a single style that flows throughout, to show consistency. The style should be professional, appealing and relevant.
- The visibility: the site must also be easy to find via most, if not all, major search engines and advertisement media.
To Break it Down:
A web site typically consists of text and images. The first page of a web site is known as the Home page. Each web page within a web site is an HTML file which has its own URL. Each picture is another file on the server that gets downloaded and displayed according to the web designers placement in the HTML file. After each web page is created, they are typically linked together using a navigation menu composed of hyperlinks. Faster browsing speeds leading to shorter attention spans and more computer savvy online visitors have made search engine placement critical particularly where commercial web sites are concerned. An estimated 80% of people doing an online search will not click through to the third page, so you need to have a well balanced web site that is easily found by google so you get that top page ranking.
If You Need More From Your Web Site:
Sometimes you want functionality that HTML cannot provide and you need to go with a more high tech solution. Ruby on Rails, PHP, MySQL, and other solid established technologies are allowing incredible features to be available in web sites. Combine AJAX with API and Database calls, cookies and the right php scripting and you can have Customer, Inventory, Logistics, Accounting and every other aspect of your business completely online.
